Game Selection
More than one type of blackjack — nep9 offers a wide range of variants to suit every Malaysian player's preference and strategy.
The most standard and widely played variant. Built on the familiar Vegas Strip rules — ideal for both new and experienced players. Blackjack pays 3:2 and the dealer stands on Soft 17.
Designed for players who prefer a faster pace. Every decision must be made within 20 seconds. Quicker rounds mean more hands per hour — a level of intensity you won't find at a standard table.
Beyond the main game, you can place a side bet on Perfect Pairs — wagering on whether your first two cards form a pair (paying out up to 25:1 for Suited Pairs). It adds an extra layer of excitement to every hand.
Play up to three hands simultaneously in a single round. The strategy is more complex, but you have more chances to win within the same timeframe. Best suited for players already comfortable with basic strategy.
An exclusive table for more serious players. Higher betting limits, a more private room, and a more personalised dealer experience. Full Vegas Strip rules apply — double down after split is allowed.
Designed specifically for those just learning blackjack. Lowest betting limits, a basic strategy guide built into the table interface, and a more relaxed pace to give you time to think through each decision.
A European variation with one key difference — the dealer only receives their second card after all players have finished their turns. This changes certain strategic decisions, particularly around doubling and splitting against a dealer's 10 or Ace.
Complete Guide
Blackjack is one of the most popular casino games in the world, and there's a solid reason it has remained relevant for centuries. Unlike most other casino games where players have no influence over the outcome whatsoever, blackjack gives you real control — every decision you make has a direct impact on the effective house edge. At nep9, we deliver a live blackjack experience that brings the thrill of a real casino straight to your smartphone or computer screen, from anywhere in Malaysia.
The basic objective of blackjack is straightforward: get a higher card total than the dealer without going over 21. If your hand exceeds 21, you bust and lose immediately, regardless of what the dealer holds. Cards are worth their face value, except face cards (Jack, Queen, King), which all count as 10, and the Ace, which counts as either 1 or 11 — whichever is more favourable for your hand at that moment.
Once you take a seat at a nep9 blackjack table and place your bet within the set limits, the dealer deals two cards to each player and two to themselves. One of the dealer's cards is dealt face up, while the other remains face down (the hole card). Based on your two cards and the dealer's one visible card, you'll need to make a decision:
Hit — Draw one more card. Choose this when your hand total is low and you want to improve it. Risk: you may bust if the next card is too high.
Stand — Stop and take no more cards. Choose this when you're satisfied with your current total or when basic strategy recommends it.
Double Down — Double your original bet and receive exactly one more card. This is a powerful option when you hold 9, 10, or 11 and the dealer is showing a low card.
Split — If your first two cards are of equal value (e.g. two 8s or two Aces), you can split them into two separate hands, each with its own bet. Always split Aces and 8s — this is a fundamental basic strategy rule that should never be ignored.
Insurance — When the dealer's face-up card is an Ace, you are offered Insurance — a side bet equal to half your original bet that the dealer has blackjack. Statistically, Insurance is a poor bet for the average player and should be avoided unless you are counting cards.
Surrender — Some nep9 tables offer Surrender — you fold your hand and get back half your bet. This option is useful in specific situations according to basic strategy, such as when you hold 16 against a dealer's 10.
Many casino players don't realise just how much their game choice affects how long their money lasts and how much enjoyment they get. Blackjack played with correct basic strategy carries a house edge as low as 0.48% to 0.55% at nep9 tables — meaning statistically, for every RM100 you wager, you can expect to lose less than RM1 over the long run.
Compare this to regular slots, where the house edge typically runs between 3% and 8%, or side games like Keno that can climb to 25% or more. With blackjack at nep9, your money lasts longer — you get more playtime for every MYR wagered and far more opportunities to ride a rewarding winning streak.
Important Note: The 0.5% house edge is only achievable when you play according to correct basic strategy. Players who make decisions randomly or based on gut feeling can push the house edge up to 2%–4% or more. Take the time to learn basic strategy — it is absolutely worth it.
Basic blackjack strategy is a set of rules that tells you the mathematically optimal play for every possible combination of your hand versus the dealer's upcard. Derived from millions of computer-simulated hands, it maximises your chances in every situation. Here are some of the most important and easy-to-remember basic strategy rules to apply at the nep9 tables:
First, always Split Aces and 8s. Two Aces give you two chances to land a hand worth 11, and two 8s (totalling 16) are the worst hand in blackjack — far better to split them into two hands each starting at 8. This applies regardless of the dealer's face-up card.
Second, never Split 5s and 10s. Two 5s give you a value of 10 — it's better to Double Down when the situation allows, not split. Two 10s give you a very strong 20 — don't ruin it by splitting.
Third, Doubling Down on 11 is almost always. When your hand totals 11, Double Down unless the dealer is showing an Ace. Your chances of hitting 21 or a high value on the next card are very strong.
Fourth, Stand on Hard 17 and above. Regardless of what the dealer is showing, if your hand is Hard 17 (no flexible Ace) or higher, Stand and let the dealer play. The risk of busting is simply too high.
Fifth, Soft 17 (Ace + 6) — Hit. This is what new players misunderstand most often. Soft 17 may look like a decent hand, but statistically you should hit for another card to try to improve it — and you cannot bust on just one more card, since the Ace can drop in value to 1.
H = Hit | S = Stand | D = Double Down | P = Split
| Your Hand | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 | A |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hard 8 or less | H | H | H | H | H | H | H | H | H | H |

While blackjack is a game you can pick up quickly, there are several mistakes that new players commonly make which can significantly reduce their chances of winning. The first mistake is taking Insurance too often. Many players are tempted to take Insurance when the dealer shows an Ace, especially when they're sitting on a strong hand. Statistically, however, Insurance is a losing bet over the long run — the house edge on Insurance approaches nearly 6%. Avoid it unless you are actively counting cards.
The second mistake is never Split Aces and 8s out of emotion. Some players are reluctant to Split 8s because they "don't want to put up two bets" against a dealer showing a strong card. But the math is clear — Splitting is always the better play for this hand, and at nep9 tables running standard rules, you should always Split this pair.
The third mistake is Stand on 12 when the dealer shows 2 or 3. This is a situation that confuses many players — 12 is a weak hand, but when the dealer shows a 2 or 3, basic strategy recommends Hit (not Stand). This is because the dealer's bust probability with a 2 or 3 is not high enough to give you an advantage by Standing on a value as low as 12.
The fourth mistake is playing with an unmanageable bankroll. Blackjack carries fairly high variance even with a low house edge. Make sure your bankroll is sufficient to weather the normal losing streaks — as a general rule, you'll want at least 50 times the minimum bet as your session bankroll to play comfortably at a nep9 blackjack table.
